We build our world with ones and zeros

Placeholder Picture

My strengths lie in the space between where technology and business intersect.

My mission statement and the way I choose to live my life. Love your family and friends, laugh at every opportunity, and never pass on a chance to try something new.

Think Different

Change is Good.

It is not the strongest or the most intelligent who will survive but those who can best manage change. - Charles Darwin

Change when embraced as a positive, can be an introduction to new and better experiences. Looking for ways to handle change while reducing fear? Spend time training with new technologies, I personally love Pluralsight and consider the annual subscription well worth it.

Stay current by finding a few professional blogs to read regularly (many companies encourage their employees to blog about their work). Have you heard of “Podcasting”? You can literally find a topic on anything, I like to mix my professional interests with personal topics to make sure I don’t get too bored. I can’t lie – the Podcast has made my XM Radio subscription a complete waste.

Perspective is Everything

A lot of people in our industry haven't had very diverse experiences, so they don't have enough dots to connect, and they end up with very linear solutions without a broad perspective on the problem. The broader one's understanding of the human experience, the better design we will have. - Steve Jobs

Perspective gives us – a new view, a new understanding and perhaps new ideas.

The most self-aware leaders recognize that perspective is one of the most valuable things they bring to their role – and the best leaders, whether they would describe it this way or not, all use the power of perspective to be more effective and successful. - Kevin Eikenberry

Gain Perspective:

  • Talk Less & Listen More
  • Ask more questions
  • Spend time with new people
  • Read, watch, learn / Try something different

Career Skills

Innovation

I love thinking of ways to leverage technology to solve business problems. (i.e. the building of a Bot to assist our Help Desk in answering questions from a number of disparate systems via one interface.)

Business Intelligence

I led the building of a Kimball style data Warehouse on SQL Server 2017. This consisted of numerous data marts, cubes, and reporting solutions (SSRS/PowerBI).

Content Management

I built a multi-site solution on Stellent Content Management and architechted the underlying technology to support those sites.

Dev/Ops

I led the effort to transform a team to embrace Dev/Ops. Test driven development, Continuous Development and Integration, automated deployments, and containers.

Team Leadership

I manage a team of 12 developers and strive to understand their work so that I can advise and coach them to be the best employees they can be.

Product Owner

I served as Technical Product Owner in the building of an iOS training application that was deployed to thousands of locations on iPads.

Hardcore History

He’s been called a lot of things, but no one says that Dan Carlin is boring. His two long-running podcasts are among the most popular in the world. Part storyteller, part analyst, Carlin has mastered the art of looking at subjects from multiple angles and dissecting and thinking about them in original ways.
